Tupperware Sushi Nigiri Maker

Mini salmon and avocado sushi and smoked trout nigiri...
We love sushi here and have been hand rolling our own for about 11 years now.  I saw this recently and fell in love with the YouTube - Tupperware should pay me kick-backs for this as I have since ordered a bunch more for friends and family after forcing them to watch.  It's hypnotizing!  Be warned!

I use my Thermie to cook my sushi rice and find it needs about 17 minutes following the usual method.  The most important step is the 'massaging' of the rice in cold water to get all the glug out - no starch needed.  When it's cooked I empty my rice into a massive mixing bowl with sushi seasoning - I buy this ready made and add a teaspoon of salt and one of sugar.  I usually enlist a small slave to fan the rice...she usually accepts and fans with overt enthusiasm.

I was disappointed that the sushi and nigiri kit didn't come with the brush and spatula in the video - boo, hiss.  Nor did the stuff come with written instructions, boo hiss!  So it was fiddly and I had to employ some trial and error the first time I used them.
The product...Tupperware Sushi and Nigiri maker/molds

When I used the nigiri maker I had to really firmly pack the molds so that they were firm enough to handle when you popped them out.  I had to trim the edges too - bit messier than the video.  Also, when you cut out your salmon press really hard and you may need a wee paring knife to free up some bits that are stuck.   On the up side - they look awesome.  I like the idea of using these to mold other things like rissoles, falafel or croquets.  I like this little mold a lot - may use for fresh butter too.

The sushi roller was as fiddly as a bamboo mat but it won out for me with consistency of size - mine are usually not at all uniform.  This makes beautiful little mini sushi that were the perfect mouthful.

I was annoyed I couldn't find instructions on the net and ended up watching the video about 7 times!  Shame on you Tupperware.  However, I can see this product will get a lot of use here - we make it for the big girls lunches and often when entertaining.  Sushi is my 'go to' food for quiz nights too.

Hope you find this useful Thermie lovers.  I paid $25 for it here in Aus...anyone else got a review?  Tell me (and the readers) what you thought in comments.

Yours in product review and Tupperware P*rn!
